La Canada Flintridge Community Center Preschool is a preschool run through the community center in La Canada Flintridge. The school offers interactive educational programming for children ages 3 to 5. All programs last for half a day and include group play and creative projects designed to encourage the healthy development of social skills.
Teachers and administrators at La Cañada Elementary challenge all students to think critically, solve complex problems, express themselves articulately in speaking, writing and technologically and to work cooperatively and individually in a diverse and multicultural world.
Parents and Children's Nursery School's educational philosophy is a play-based approach with some structure. The school offers an age-appropriate developmental program which encourages creativity and exploration and stimulates cognitive growth. The school also fosters social and emotional maturity in preparedness for kindergarten and life in general.
Classes run from 9am to 12:30pm. Parents and Children's Nursery School offers extended care for $8 an hour.
Tuition rates are Tuesday through Thursday, $230 a month, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, $315 a month and Monday through Friday, $485 a month. It also offers a six week summer program from 9am to 12:30pm Monday through Friday, $170 a week.
Class size is between 10 and 12 students.
The Learning Castle is a private school for students ages 4 years old through third grade. The accelerated program is designed for students who perform at and above their grade levels. Each student has an individual education program as well as personal, class and grade objectives.
Enrichment programs include art, music, Spanish, computer science, physical education and the performing arts. The campus features a state-of-the-art computer lab along with a fully equipped art room. The physical education department offers eight tennis courts, a gymnasium and three full-sized athletic fields.
Field trips are also an important aspect of education at The Learning Castle. In an average school year, students will attend field trips to Camp C.I.M.I. on Catalina Island, the Long Beach Aquarium, Astrocamp in Idyllwild, Pali Mountain in Arrowhead, Boston, and Washington D.C.
This school was established in 1969 as a way to extend the ministry of St. George's Episcopal Church in La Cañada Flintridge. The school provides a half-day program for children aged three through five. The curriculum encourages children to think, create and reason. It also enhances physical development. Programs focus on language development and social skills along with respect for cultural diversity. Creative expression and appreciation for the arts are also highly encouraged.
Hogg's Hollow caters to children three to five years old. Teachers tailor lessons to the individual needs of the students and often use the environment as a teaching tool. Nature exploration provides an opportunity to challenge the students to excel.
Classwork includes an introduction to written language, reading readiness, early mathematical concepts, numeral recognition, computers and hands-on science.
Each week, teachers involve the children in drama, sewing, creative stories, dance, gymnastics, cooking, arts and crafts, musical experiences and art lessons. The art lessons culminate in an art show and the student's mounted works are displayed and sold by silent auction.
As for the school's physical eduction program, students have access to playing fields, a track, and tennis courts. They run and bike around the track daily and, for upper body strength, they climb the school's junior rock climbing wall.
Advanced Education Academy is a private school that serves approximately 15 students in grades 6 through 11. The school is coed and nonsectarian.
Oak Knoll Kinderhaus is an Association Montessori International accredited school. This La Cañada campus provides instruction for elementary students up to age 12 while toddlers as young as 18 months and pre-school children attend the Oak Knoll Kinderhaus on Lake Avenue in Pasadena. At this traditional Montessori school, children learn and explore inside and outside the classroom. They may plant and harvest flowers and vegetables, feed the birds and squirrels and bring classroom equipment outside.
La Cañada Unified School District consists of three elementary schools and one combined junior/senior high school. There are approximately 4,000 students in this public school system, which routinely ranks in the top performing districts in the state.

Foothill Progressive Montessori Academy began in 1984 with 12 students, ranging in age from five to 12 years. In 1994, the pre-school component of the Academy relocated to 827 Houseman Street, also in La Cañada Flintridge. The elementary and middle grades remain at the Indionola Way site. Developing strong academic skills is the chief objective of Foothill Progressive as it works to hone social skills, physical fitness, consideration for others, musical and philanthropic appreciation and an understanding of cultural diversity. According to the school's website, the key is to develop well-rounded students who will grauduate to become productive members of society. Foothill offers art education, computer class, dance, music, spanish, gymnastics, summer programs and day care.
