The Salvation Army operates six senior housing communities in San Diego and Riverside County. One of these is the Silvercrest residential community located in the Sierra del Mar District.
These homes are low-income options for seniors who still want to live independently, but may be on a tight budget. Special subsidies are available for those who cannot afford it or have a disability.
Silvercrest has close to 600 units, and organizes recreational activities for their residents. There are people onsite to assist people with any issues they may have with their housing as well.
The Red Cross’ Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program helps local families to stay healthy. The organization’s counselors and dieticians offer nutritional advice and breastfeeding support. WIC also refers its members to other community services.
Life Of Liberty specializes in assisting adult individuals with disabilities. Its staff works to promote patient independence, and offers life planning, vocational training, education and other resources. Life of Liberty features a fitness center, snack bar, arts and crafts programs, a multi-purpose room, computer labs and a culinary skills center.
The Rosicrucian Fellowship is a religious retreat and the center for persons celebrating the Rosicrucian Philosophy, a Christian organization that teaches and discusses the mysteries of the faith’s art, religion and science. It’s perched on one of the most scenic peaks of the city where it has panoramic views of the ocean, valley and mountains. Located on the property are a series of buildings such as the chapel, administrative offices and dorm room quarters for guests to come on retreat. There is a prayer trail that circles the property were participants take a vow of silence for the walk.
Home Start is a nonprofit organization that focuses on child abuse prevention and family strengthening. The organization provides outreach programs and parental education and assistance.
KOCT- Oceanside Community Television is a non-profit corporation that provides public, educational and government access programming and services on Cox Communications channels 18 and 19. It is funded by community and private donations.
KOCT provides live coverage and replays of city council meetings, produces and airs documentaries, local sports, talk shows and many other community programs. The station also provides a community bulletin board where local non-profits and government can publicize their events.
