The office of the California Coastal Commission is hidden on the third floor of the building that houses the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. The Commission was established 38 years ago through a voter initiative, and was designed to protect California's coastlines. It plans and manages land and water usage along coastal areas.
The Santa Cruz County Superior Court is in the centrally located Santa Cruz County courthouse. All visitors to the courthouse must pass through metal detectors before entering courtrooms. The Superior Court handles a wide variety of cases, both civil and criminal, in its seven courtrooms.
