Established in 1956, the Hawthorn Center is a treatment agency operated by the Michigan Department of Community Health. Environmental Laboratory analyzes a range of environmental samples for state government facilities. The laboratory provides consulting service to the private sector and the general public. It spreads across an area of more than 27,000 square feet. The laboratory employs a staff of over 40 individuals that include trained professionals and other support personnel. Environmental Laboratory maintains atomic absorption and inductively coupled plasma spectrometers. It also features combination gas chromatograph and mass spectrometers.
