Founded in 1922, The Wellmont Theatre is a theatrical and music venue located on Seymour Street in downtown Montclair. Originally featuring only live preformances, Wellmont began screening movies in 1929. In 2008, the theatre underwent a $3 million renovation and now hosts regularly scheduled live entertainment events from world renowned performers.
Front & Center for Performing Arts offers a variety of classes including dance (ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical/contemporary and hip hop), musical theatre, voice, acting and more. The center caters to the needs of both the serious performer and the recreational student. The caring and knowledgeable staff strives to create a fun and nurturing environment. Two River Theater is a theatre company that was founded in 1994 by Dr. Robert M. and Joan Rechnitz. It offers an 8 show season of classics as well as contemporary plays and musicals. Two River Theater also offers community and educational theater arts programs.
The Hudson School is a private middle and high school that serves grades 5-12 and provides a rigorous college preparatory education. The school offers classes in many subjects including language arts, science, math, philosophy, and foreign languages such as French, German, Spanish and Japanese. Two years of Latin classes are required in order to graduate. Students are also required to complete 20 hours of community service before graduation.
The school was founded in 1978 by current principal Suellen Newman, with the financial assistance of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
The school day begins at 8:30am. High school students, with their parents' permission are free to eat lunch off campus so long as it is nearby.
