About Pax Amicus Pax Amicus was first founded in 1970 on the belief that the arts can be a nurturing vehicle for peace and friendship. Its name, Pax Amicus, is the Latin translation of Peace, Friend, and truly captures the essence of the theatre and its members. The actual Pax Amicus Castle Theater stands majestically on the shores of scenic Budd Lake in northwestern New Jersey ( about an hour west of New York City ) and produces a full year-round season of Broadway and off-Broadway revivals, professional productions of Shakespeares plays for students, and a season of Theatre for Children. The Castle, which seats 200, offers special theatrical events throughout the year, and sponsors and welcomes talented comics and other performing artists to its stage. The Pax Amicus Castle Theater is also home to Castle Shakespeare Repertory Company, founded in 1995 by Stan Barber as a professional company of actors to present the plays of the worlds master playwright to students during the school day. It is also home to The Magical Caravan Players, which was founded in 1998, and presents theatre for children at the Castle during the school day and brings live theatre into the schools. Over 250, 000 NJ, NY and PA. students have seen in-house school performances of Shakespeare and Theatre for Children. In November 2000, Pax Amicus celebrated its 30th Anniversary. Stan Barber remains administrative and artistic director, directing most of the shows, and George Stults, Paul Berry, and Rusty Cook visit and perform often at the Castle which they helped build. Bob Findlay has become a respected videographer and filmmaker, and is working with Stan on producing and marketing professional videotapes of Pax Amicus original productions. Stan is also working with a new and exciting songwriter, Matt Gandolfo on turning his theatre for children musical productions into storybooks and CDs, while they work on a major new musical, The Trojan War....and at the core of it all, the Castle stands as not only a respected theatre of the arts, but also, and most importantly, as a place of peace, a place of friendship. Welcome to Pax Amicus! Enjoy the Show Pax Amicus is a not-for profit, cultural-educational foundation that survives and thrives on ticket sales and individual donations.
