Housed in a building from the 1800s—one of the oldest in New Canaan—this thrift shop has been in business since 1930. The non-profit business offers a variety of high-quality second-hand items from clothes to home decor to furniture. The thrift shop is very involved in the community, donating merchandise to people in need as well as to fundraisers and providing costumes and props for high school plays.
Recently relocated to a 7,000-square-foot space in the Chickahominy section, this shop is filled with designer clothing, china, crystal, furniture and rugs. It also picks up donated furniture. Whether you purchase, donate or volunteer your time, you are helping the hospital, which earned more than $3 million from thrift shop sales in the past decade. There is plenty of parking in the private lot.
The UConn Thrift Shop opened in 1993 and is volunteer-run. The shop sells gently used clothing and accessories for men and women, books, CDs, DVDs, art and small household items. All proceeds go to the UConn Health Center Auxiliary. Donations are accepted.
