Second Story Bookshop, founded in 1992, is not only one of New Yorks finest used-bookstore, but also one of New York States fastest growing (a rare feat these days). We are a general used bookstore, thus offering a large selection of books on all subjects, including childrens titles. Although we do not specialize in any one subject, we can claim to have the largest selection of art, architecture, and photography books in the area. For those unimpressed by our facade, we are bigger than we look! We boast over 50,000 titles in-stock, from genre fiction priced at $2.50 to highly collectible titles. Nearly all our books are cataloged online. Because we are always buying, our inventory grows everyday. Founded in 1980, Books of Wonder is New York Citys largest and oldest childrens bookstore and the citys leading specialist in childrens literature. Among the various departments in our store are sections devoted to childrens classic and contemporary picture books, board books for infants and toddlers, foreign language childrens books, reference books for children ( dictionaries, atlases, etc. ), non-fiction, and chapter books and novels for children from beginning readers to teens. And, of course, there is our world famous Oz section - a whole bookcase devoted to the many Oz books by L. Frank Baum and his successors. Of special interest to collectors is our wall of old, rare, and collectible childrens books and original childrens book art. Books of Wonder publishes many of the Oz classics, including the original L. Frank Baum titles ( The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its many sequels ) as well as later Oz stories written by other writers. For the many fans of Oz, Books of Wonder sponsors The Royal Club of Oz which publishes "The Emerald City Mirror", the clubs official newsletter. Finally, Oz books and merchandise can also be purchased through The Oz Collector ( a catalogue published quarterly ), or our online store. Books of Wonder in partnership with HarperCollins Publishers publishes the Books of Wonder Classics: deluxe gift editions of timeless stories, lavishly illustrated with full-color plates and black-and-white drawings. There are nearly sixty titles in the series including Alices Adventures In Wonderland, The Jungle Book, The Story of Dr. Doolittle, Black Beauty and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Established in 1906, the IES is the recognized technical and educational authority on illumination. For over one hundred years its objective has been to communicate information on all aspects of good lighting practice to its members, to the lighting community, and to consumers through a variety of programs, publications, and services. The strength of the IES is its diversified membership: engineers, architects, designers, educators, students, contractors, distributors, utility personnel, manufacturers, and scientists, all contributing to the mission of the Society: to improve the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public.

The IES is a forum for the exchange of ideas and information and a vehicle for its members professional development and recognition. Through its technical committees, with hundreds of qualified members from the lighting and user communities, the IES correlates research, investigations, and discussions to guide lighting experts and laypersons via research-and consensus based lighting recommendations.

To celebrate the Private Librarys Twentieth Season in New York, providing services to bibliophiles, we are pleased to announce the opening of Jumel Terrace Books at 426 West 160th Street (between St. Nicholas and Edgecombe Avenues). Housed on the garden floor of an 1891 brownstone, the stock draws on private librarian Kurt Thometzs collections on these subjects. Open Friday through Sunday from 11 to 6 - by appointment, serendipity, and invitation - the shop hosts book signings, exhibitions, and special events. The first of these shows features our collection of Africas incunabula, the Onitsha Market Literature familiar to readers of his Life Turns Man Up and Down (Pantheon, $26.95).
