Wheaton VFW Post 2164 is an organization that supports US veterans and service members as well as their families. It also supports local youth through scholarships, hosts Veterans Day and Memorial Day services and supports overseas troops through Operation Uplink. Wheaton VFW Post 2164 organizes blood drives, lobbies elected officials to support veterans and participates in such organizations as National Volunteer Week, Toys for Tots, Make a Difference Day and March of Dimes.
It also acts as a VA liaison for veterans seeking a wide range of problems including receiving support and military awards. There are four Veterans Homes for the disabled and elderly located throughout Illinois, some of which are equipped for Alzheimer patients. Graveside funeral service rites can be performed to honor a service member who has passed.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5036 is located on N. 3rd Street two blocks north of Main Street. Commander Mark Powell heads the post. It is a nonprofit organization helping to raise awareness and support for veterans. Quarterly blood drives, coffee and donuts every Saturday at 7am, dinners and member meetings every third Monday at 6pm are some of the regular events it hosts. Hall rentals are available for private functions.
