Hogle Zoo lies on the east side of Salt Lake City, nestled at the foothills of the Wasatch mountains. While the zoo certainly cannot compare to the size of much more well-known zoos, it does nevertheless possess a charm and intimacy that makes it a perfect place for families, especially those with young children who tend to get tired easily. The newly-built African Savanna exhibit is especially a place the kids will enjoy seeing giraffes and zebras.

Best and Worst Time to Go to Hogle Zoo
Avoid the weekend if you can, especially between June and August. The crowds can be almost unbearable and, coupled with the heat of the summer, will sap any strength you have for dealing with the hoards of people and cranky children. Instead, aim for weekdays when school is back in session, such as September and October. The crowds are much thinner and the cool air will be a welcome addition.

Parking at Hogle Zoo
Parking during peak times such as weekends can be pretty awful. The parking lot in front of the zoo is not very big. There is a lot across the street for overflow parking, but even on busy days this lot can fill up as well.

Food at Hogle Zoo
There are four different dining options inside the zoo, with the most recent addition, The Beastro, providing indoor restaurant seating for the first time in the zoo's history. Fare is typical, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, or Teriyaki chicken, ranging from $3 to $8 per dish. However, you're welcome to bring in your own food and beverages and eat on one of the various grassy areas available inside the zoo.

Insider Tip for Hogle Zoo
Be sure to visit the bird exhibit, as it's one of the best exhibits at the zoo and while not attracting crowds of people. Also, if you do go during the warmer months, have your younger kids wear their swimming suits, as there is a small splash pad at the park.

Museum of the San Rafael Some of the most unique archaeological finds in the U.S. have been found in the caves and rock ledges of Emery County. Skilled artisans shaped the baskets, pots, projectile points, yucca ropes, and leater bundles. What became of these people? The Museum of the San Rafael holds only the clues.
