As a born and raised Texan, Rene Amaya, MD, FAAP, CWSP, is dedicated to providing the highest quality of wound care management services for children at Pediatric Wound Care & Laser Specialists in Houston. Dr. Amaya is board-certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is designated by the American Board of Wound Management as one of a few pediatricians in the United States to be a certified wound specialist physician. Dr. Amaya earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He went on to complete his residency in pediatrics at Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. Following his residency, Dr. Amaya remained at the hospital to serve as chief resident. He then returned to Texas to complete three years of specialty training in pediatric infectious diseases at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Amaya remains an active member of the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing, the International Society for Pediatric Wound Care, and the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Amaya is renowned for his research in complex pediatric wound care, with his scholarly articles appearing in numerous medical journals. He also speaks at wound care conferences and seminars throughout the United States and Europe. At Pediatric Wound Care & Laser Specialists, Dr. Amaya offers the most advanced technologies to treat pediatric wounds. The center features two state-of-the-art laser devices to treat burns and scars from injuries or surgery. Dr. Amaya is also highly trained in adult laser cosmetic services, tailoring treatments to patient needs. For the convenience of his patience, he is fluent in both English and Spanish. When not working with his patients, Dr. Amaya enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children.
