John Wayne Airport SNA is an airport in Orange County, California serving the southeast metropolitan area of Los Angeles.  It contains the shortest main runway in the United States. SNA Airport is the second busiest airport in the greater Los Angeles area with 9 million passengers traveling through annually.  Originally started as a flying school in 1923 it eventually was purchased through a land swap by Orange County in 1939.  During World War II it became part the Santa Ana Army Airfield and later was returned to the county after the war, becoming the Orange County Airport. Denver International Airport DEN, also known as DIA, is located 25 miles northeast of downtown Denver and replaced the outdated Stapleton International Airport in 1994. Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport opened in May of 2010, making it the first airport in the United States to be opened after the September 11 attacks. It was built to replace Panama City-Bay County International Airport in Panama City. ECP Airport was built due to increased popularity of the area as a vacation destination.
