Located on the first floor of the Lincoln Lewis Terrace apartment building near town hall, the Southington Housing Authority provides services for low-income residents who are 62 or older and for any disabled person who meets guidelines set by Connecticut laws and the Social Security Administration. The authority provides oversight and maintains facilities at General Pulaski Terrace at 6 Carter Lane in Plantsville, DiCaprio Forgione Terrace at 408 Main Street, Zdunczyk Terrace at 500 Pleasant Street and Lincoln Lewis Terrace at 43 Academy Street, all in Southington. These facilities include 180 apartments which are assigned based on an application process completed from January to June and are filled as spots become available.
The primary function of the Town of East Haven Housing Authority is to assist low-income Section 8 tenants with housing and landlord problems. The Section 8 list is indefinitely closed to new applicants. (Section 8 is an income-based federal housing-subsidy program.) The authority also acts like a real-estate agency by helping people of all income levels find apartments in town. Director Megan McAullife and a part-time secretary run the office.
The City of Meriden Housing Authority provides nearly 1,400 units of subsidized housing for moderate- to low-income Meriden residents. It manages five apartment complexes: Mills Memorial, Community Towers, Chamberlain Heights, Johnson Farms and Yale Acres. It also gives vouchers for subsizided rent in privately-owned buildings throughout the city. With ongoing renovation and rebuilding projects, the entity's 39 full-time staff members are always in motion. They also provide services for residents, like savings programs, computer and literacy training, teen activities, daycare and employment training.
The Town of Windsor Housing Authority was created in 1968 and consists of five commisioners in an effort to facilitate elderly and disabled housing as well as a Section-8 rental assistance program in Windsor. One hundred twelve units are run by the Authority under the elderly and disabled program. The Section-8 program subsidizes rent payments for tenants throughout Windsor on an-need basis. The commisioners meet on the last Monday of each month.
The Simsbury Housing Authority, which sits on 13 acres in the northern part of town, has been providing housing for elderly and/or disabled persons with limited income for more than 35 years. The housing authority, comprised of the Dr. Owen L. Murphy Apartments and the Virginia Connolly Residence, for a total 110 units, provides affordable, safe, sanitary and drug-free housing for its residents.
The Trumbull Housing Authority oversees Stern Village, a subsidized housing complex where the office itself is located. Harry Wise is the executive director.
The Housing Authority runs 439 assisted dwelling units, including Welles Village, Center Village, Village Green, Herbert T. Clark House and Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8). The Authority was the developer and provides management services to the Herbert T. Clark Assisted Living facility.
The Authority is also the administrator for the town's Moderate Price Housing Program and Fair Rent Commission.
