Butternut Hollow is a medium-sized residential park with a lot of open lawn, a playground and a nice fishing pond.
Located on the banks of the Quinnipiac River, this park has a canoe launch site and walking trails along the banks. It is home to the Cheshire Soccer Club, which offers a number of leagues for youth and adult teams. The park also has a pavilion and playground. Its location on Cheshire Street puts it near historic houses, which were built when settlers moved from Wallingford to Cheshire to form the new town.
Sears Park is East Hampton's only municipal park. Situated on Lake Pocotopaug, the park was donated to the town in 1910 by the Sears family. Between 1995 and 2005 the Town acquired the three adjacent properties to the north, expanding the park to approximately three acres.
Meckauer Park is a 39-acre expanse that offers area residents plenty of space to relax, play, eat and spend time with family. The park contains a pond, pavilion, picnic areas, a children's playground, basketball and volleyball courts and an all-purpose field. Both the pavilion and the upper picnic areas are available for private events.
A large park off Tolland Turnpike, Northwest Park includes a number of different recreational facilities, including a full-size lighted baseball field used by the town's high school teams,a little league field and a playground. Other amenities at the park include a fishing pier, a pavilion that can be rented for private parties and a children's garden. The Union Pond Trail section of the Hockanum River Linear Park can also be accessed through Northwest Park.
The home field for many community baseball teams, McNamara Field is maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department. Since 2005 the town has used organic land care methods at the request of parents who were concened about chemical pesticides. The four ballfields are heavily used during the season. The park also offers a playscape for children and a basketball court.
Located next to Evan's Toy Shoppe, Rascals gym helps children learn and play with a purpose. It offers classes for kids from 8 months to 7 years in age and offer classes which involve parent participation as well as independent classes for children. Free introductory courses available.
Dedicated in September 2000, the Town Campus Playground is designed to be used by children five to twelve years old. The playground was created with the help of the Philip Picard family, in memory of Philip Picard, along with the Madison Newcomers Club, the Corey Erskine Memorial Foundation, the Pre K-Kindergarten PTQ, the Board of Education Modular Pre K-Kindergarten Project, Emily R. Vancil and Lenny and Joe's Fishtale.
The playground is conveniently located next to the town tennis courts, which are reserved for the use of town residents and their guests. Playing time should be limited to one hour when people are waiting.
