This simple but elegant lakefront park affords views onto Harris Lake and the homes on the other side. The lofty shelter has four grills and two picnic tables. The playground equipment features a seafaring theme, with the prow of a play boat pointing toward the lake.
Offering sports fields, walking paths and playgrounds, this park in the Kingfield neighborhood was named in honor of 19th century feminist Margaret Fuller, according to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's historical account of public land by David C. Smith. The park, which is located up the hill from a row of picturesque shops on 48th Street, provides space for everything from community events to relaxing picnics. The recreation center includes a crafts room, as well as meeting space for neigbors.
Situated quaintly near the hustle and bustle of Highways 100 and 55 in Golden Valley sits a slice of nature known as Schaper Park. The park consists of 11.3 acres of land and is home to a playground, two softball fields that receive plenty of use from local club teams and scenic walkways and trails for bicyclists and pedestrians who want to enjoy the outdoors.
The Edina Aquatic Center is located in Rosland Park. It is open in the summer, and opening and closing dates change yearly. The Edina Aquatic Center features a water slide tower, diving boards, a cable ride and a dry playground. The pool is staffed by certified lifeguards. The Edina Aquatic Center also offers swimming lessons.
Located near the intersection of Zenith Avenue and Manor Drive on the edge of Golden Valley, Glenview Terrace Park offers five acres of fun for the entire family. Amenities include walkways and trails, playground equipment, two lighted tennis courts and game squares. Dogs are allowed on the property provided that they're on a leash.
Near the upscale Shops at West End, Blackstone Park offers a small sliver of nature in a largely residential and commercial area. Blackstone has a playground and a basketball court, as well as a sheltered picnic area and a grill for BBQs. The park also borders a small scenic pond.
One block from Southwest High School, Pershing Park attracts a youthful crowd. That's partly due to the fact that the east side of the park hosts the schools' track and stadium facilities.
However, the park also hosts tennis, basketball, soccer and softball fields that are open to the public. The recreation center makes available a craft room, meetings rooms and kitchen. It also offers tons of activities for young children.
The park was named for General John "Blackjack" Pershing, who commanded American troops in World War I, according to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's account of the city's public land by David C. Smith.
Located next to Sigurd Olson School, Wildwood Park offers walkways and trails, playground equipment, a basketball court, two tennis courts, two softball fields, game squares, picnic tables, and a sun shelter. Free parking is available on the street or at the adjacent school.
Edinborough Park offers an indoor oasis all year round. This family friendly destination is home to the Edinborough Park Playpark, which is one acre of activity possibilities, including Adventure Peak and the Great Hall. Edinborough Park also has a swimming pool and running track. The location offers birthday party packages. The indoor amphitheater hosts free concerts at 7pm on Sundays from September through May. Annual membership discounts are available for Edina residents.
