The Maui Community Correctional Center is a part of the State of Hawaii. The center is governed by the Hawaii Department of Public Safety. Honolulu International Airport is classified as on of the busiest airports in the United States with a volume of more than 21 million passengers a year and growing. At its opening in 1927 the airport bore a namesake from World War I naval officer John Rodgers. John Rodgers Airport was the first airport in Hawaii, aside from the small landing strips planes had previously used. By 1946 the airport was returned to the Territory of Hawaii from the Navy who had previous control. The next year the airports names changed to Honolulu Airport and in 1951 “International” was added to the official name.

The airport is located on the island of Oahu, three miles from the central business district. Hawaiian Airlines calls HNL its home and many passengers take connection flights from Honolulu to other islands on Hawaiian airlines planes. HNL also services flights to the continental United States as well as many international flights including Japan, South Korea, Tahiti, Samoa, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Direct flights to several Asian and Pacific Rim destinations are offered from the airport.

HNL Airport is accessible via H-1 Interstate Freeway and passengers can get there by car, taxi, bus and shuttle.
